A small wrinkle in the very fabric of reality, magically bound to a shaft by some mad acolyte of Lugonu. It possesses an unusually large reach that teleports its attack directly to its victim. |
Distortion brand
Range 3 reaching attack that is smite-targeted (bypasses intervening monsters, statues, and iron grates).
Desirability
Rift,[1] as a +8 demon trident of distortion, is already a top-tier weapon. The extra reach helps with blinked enemies, while the smite-targeting makes it even better when attacking behind summons or other allies. It can also be used to attack monsters behind other monsters (like boggarts). Distortion can be tricky to deal with, but it is a powerful brand (stronger than electrocution).
As with other distortion weapons, Rift inflicts very dangerous effects on unwield (including banishment), with Lugonu worshippers being exempt. Regardless, Rift's powerful base type makes it a fairly strong weapon that you shouldn't need to unwield for the rest of the game, seeing use with spellcaster and melee builds alike.
