- This article is about the status condition. For the removed intrinsic, see Warding (intrinsic).
Warding is a monsters-only status effect that grants immunity to all damage at range, requiring the attacker to be within melee range any damage to be dealt.
Effect
Warded creatures are completely immune to damage from sources that are not within an adjacent tile. This does not mean that all ranged damage is nullified, only that you must be within melee range for the attack to land. Summoned creatures and other allies must also be within an adjacent space to deal damage, but their summoner is not required to also be next to the target.
Debilitating effects such as poison or slowing can be applied from range, but any damage will not occur until the source is next to the warded target. Warding cannot be removed through a wand of quicksilver or Yara's Violent Unraveling.
Sources
- Some monsters are naturally warded, this includes clockroaches and mountainshells
- The Bane of Warding can apply the warded status to any future monster that is encountered.
- The Bane of Mortality summons warded reapers near you at low HP.
All sources of warding are permanent; they do not wear off over time and cannot be removed by any means.
History
- The warding status effect was added in 0.34.
