Bolt of Magma is a level 5 Conjurations/Fire Magic/Earth Magic spell which deals respectable fire/physical damage to an enemy within 5 tiles. It loses one square of range each time it hits a monster.
Damage = 4d(4 + power/6). Only 55% of this damage is resistible.
Strategy
Bolt of Magma has a short range as far as Conjurations go, and it requires three magic schools to cast, making it difficult to attain max power. On the plus side, as a level 5 spell it's easier to remove its hunger cost than some of the more powerful bolt spells (Bolt of Fire or Bolt of Cold), although a staff of energy levels the playing field there. It's also still effective against monsters resistant to fire due to its Earth Magic component, making it somewhat more versatile.
History
Prior to 0.12, Bolt of Magma did less damage.
