A trample attack is a melee attack that not only causes physical damage, but also knocks the victim back one tile; the trampler then occupies the tile previously occupied by its target. Only the largest monsters in the game have a trampling attack. Targets smaller in size have a greater chance of being knocked back. This knockback does not take effect if it would move the target into an uninhabitable tile (eg, a wall, tree, lava) or into another monster.
Monsters That Trample
The following is a comprehensive list of all monsters that trample:
- most dragons: fire dragon, ice dragon, swamp dragon, iron dragon, storm dragon, golden dragon, bone dragon, Xtahua, Serpent of Hell
- all elephants: elephant, dire elephant, hellephant, Nellie
- hell beast
- you, when in Dragon Form
Tips and Tricks
Pay careful attention to trampling creatures when attempting to make an escape via stairways. If one is adjacent to you when you try to use the stairway, it will invariably push you off it and then occupy what was to be your escape route. You are left further injured, with an adjacent enemy, and still in need of an escape.
