Common combat strategies on monster pages

Throwing things would be a common addition to most monster pages. Should we just:

  • mention throwing things at monsters, or
  • list the common missiles that can be thrown, or
  • list a complete list of missiles that can hit at range, or
  • list a recommended list of items to throw, or
  • just refer to softening monsters up?

I think that adders (and other very early-game threats like gnolls, etc.) are a special case. It'd be best (imo) if we went "like most other enemies...". Adders are particularlly good at limiting options, and killing players who don't use everything -- so anything deserves a mention. For example, blind quaff "works" for most things in early D, though they apply to poisonous adders the most. I think how it was, was fine; list two-three effective things you can throw, and readers can derrive that they can throw other things. --Hordes (talk) 03:15, 20 March 2022 (CET)

I see your point. Players are reading the wiki for information. Adders are one of the earliest monsters you cannot run away from so give the player a tip. They are also one of the earliest poisonous monsters so give the player a tip. Even though both these tips would apply to the more lethal water moccasin, the player would already have figured out how to battle poisonous snakes before encountering the water moccasin. Thus the page for the water moccasin begins with "Water moccasins are larger and stronger than the adders found early on, but are otherwise very similar." So I will not try to give the reader exhaustive or detailed information that may already be known by game playing experience. I appreciate your feedback. --Wwf (talk) 04:23, 20 March 2022 (CET)
