Entirely removes the heat from the enemy nearest the caster, instantly freezing it into a block of solid ice. The spell is unnaturally loud, but becomes quieter as the caster's power increases. |
Absolute Zero is a Level 9 Ice Magic spell that instantly kills the closest enemy in range regardless of its current health, resistances, or defenses. If two or more creatures are equally close, the target is chosen at random from among them. Creatures slain with Absolute Zero become blocks of ice.
Absolute Zero makes an extremely loud noise, but becomes quieter with higher spell power.
Strategy
What strategy? Whenever it be an orb of fire, The Royal Jelly, or even Pandemonium lords or Hell bosses like Antaeus, your target will irresistibly die in one hit. Even Lehudib's Crystal Spear can take multiple casts to bring a single foe down - Absolute Zero does it in less turns, with less MP, and (debatably) less investment.
Sarcasm aside, there are a few caveats. The spell is difficult to use against monsters who summon or just flat out packs. It may require good positioning or constantly resetting a fight in order to get your intended target blasted by cold. It can't deal with huge crowds like Fire Storm or Tornado can. Therefore, Ozocubu's Refrigeration complements Absolute Zero quite nicely: it is pure Ice and hits everything in LOS. And as a Level 9 spell, it often still is impractical to cast in a 3 rune game unless you worship Vehumet or wear a ring of wizardry. Even with all these negatives, Absolute Zero still remains a absolutely devastating one-hit kill machine from Zot onwards.
