Which God should you chose as a DrMo?

I've never before played this combo. As a XL6 I'm online in the Ecumenical temple type which offers all 15 of them. Uneasy to select an optimum support god. Elvylion, easy change to Zin and back later on? Ash, strong info and stat boosts and without much armour cursing? Conservative easy going Makhleb? Or Vehumet? Definitively not Chei, Okawaru, Nemelex, Xom or Fedhas. Are there objective good reasons for one of the five favored ones? Speak out. -- Bwijn 22:00, 31 May 2013 (CEST)

My two favourite gods for melee guys are Trog and Oka. I've played a monk with Trog to good success. --Flun 22:35, 31 May 2013 (CEST)
Yeah, I usually do Okawaru with monks, since his Heroism ability is one of the only ways to boost the Unarmed Combat skill.
Out of the ones you've listed, though... I guess it depends on what you're doing in terms of magic? Vehumet's only a good choice if you're doing primarily attack spells. Makhleb's good if you're not planning on doing much magic or if you really like getting HP for kills. I almost never use Ashenzari, Zin, or Elyvilon, so I don't have much of an opinion to offer, there. --spudwalt 23:44, 31 May 2013 (CEST)
My personal favorite is Makhleb because of the utility he offers, but I usually play a Troll. Oka is pretty good too, although I'm always disappointed by his gifts, especially for monks (he still gifts weapons with 20 UC and no other weapon skill). Ash isn't that good either, as you can't get a boost to your primary weapon skill, and you can't gain piety for cursing.. well, your hands or something. Ely/Zin seem more like challenge gods to me, and it'd be better to just start as a healer/priest if you wanted to worship them. --Lokkij 00:00, 1 June 2013 (CEST)
Thank you very much. Interesting proposals. - Some of you seem to appreciate Oka much. And I see his chocolate part/ sweetest side: the two invoked abilities and his material gifts. But on the other hand I read: "Killing powerful living, undead or demonic beings. Very low chance of Piety for weak creatures." That acts as a deterrent to me. As long as you have no high dam weapon and at least some MR and poison resist intrinsic you can't take on powerful opponents if not suicidal. How could you build up piety if the above citated description of Oka is true? - Trog is probably the easiest to play: just cutting away all magic, reduced complexity and support by Trog make your path. Sorry, I don't find him fascinating at all, can't help it. - Makhleb I've played frequently (well, 0.10 & 0.11 version). The invocation skill is increasing constantly and better than most other gods. And I liked the offer to call Greater demons if needed e.g. to help against naga mages and warriors and win the spider/snake/shoals/vaults runes. - Ely is only possible because the monk gets ** piety on conversion and the sacrificing of weapons brings even more and makes pacifying a practicable way against even wyverns and griffons. I really don't know if you should try pacifying on uniques like Donald or Maud. And surely never against player ghosts? Probably pacifying is meant to get rid of common poisonous nuisances and concentrate on killing uniques and heavy weights? - Ash has some challenge. Which is fascinating. But he offers a Janus face: hinderance to select your situation adaptive weapon and no direct combat help. On the other hand the best support for orientation (scrying, put aside poor equipment and perceive the good ones). And stats boosting which helps a lot! But can it suffice if by bad luck you don't find the necessary spell books and restistance providing equipment? No, my experience tells me. Bad luck can easily kill you. -- Bwijn 01:58, 1 June 2013 (CEST)
