Metal Splinters is a monster-only spell which blasts you with a cloud of shrapnel, dealing heavy ranged physical damage. Unlike most monstrous breath attacks, this does not function like a Bolt spell; it can only affect the first target it strikes.
The following monsters can always cast Metal Splinters:
E Iron elemental- 3d27
9 War gargoyle- 3d27
D Iron dragon- 3d30
D Serpent of Hell (Dis)- 3d32
The following monster may be able to cast Metal Splinters, depending on its spell set:
& Pandemonium lord- Varies
History
In very early, pre-DCSS versions of Crawl, this was a player-castable level 8 pure Conjurations spell (though the name was then Throw Splinters). Notably, it was a penetrating bolt, dealt pure physical damage, and bypassed enemy evasion. It was replaced in Crawl 2.7 with Lehudib's Crystal Spear.
