The only use for potions of decay is to cast Evaporate on them. Doing so creates a powerful cloud of miasma, rotting, slowing and poisoning the targets. These potions are rarely generated naturally, but can be made in the following ways:

*Casting Fulsome Distillation on any rot-inducing corpse or some contaminated corpses (ogres and other large monsters)

*A high-powered Curse card may convert your potions into potions of decay.

History

Potions of decay were removed from the game in 0.17.

Prior to 0.12, the loss of max HP occurred over time through the rot status effect. Also, the potion was useful when coupled with Evaporate, an obsolete spell that allowed you to turn potions into harmful clouds. Potions of decay would create clouds of extremely powerful miasma.
