A small dragon with brilliant yellow scales, its mouth dripping with corrosive slime.

“On the other hand, Confucius is made to say to his disciples, ‘I know how
birds can fly, how fishes can swim, and how animals can run. But the runner
may be snared, the swimmer may be hooked, and the flyer may be shot by the
arrow. But there is the dragon. I cannot tell how he mounts on the wind
through the clouds, and rises to heaven. Today I have seen Lao-tsze, and can
only compare him to the dragon.’”
-Life of Confucius

“This Dragon had Two furious Wings
Each one upon each Shoulder;
With a Sting in his Tail as long as a Flail,
Which made him bolder and bolder.
He had long Claws, and in his Jaws
Four and forty Teeth of Iron;
With a Hide as tough, as any Buff,
Which did him round environ.”

Tips & Tricks

  • Corrosion resistance will reduce the damage of its acid breath, though it's reasonable to fight acid dragons without.
  • If you do get corroded, reassess the situation. If you're confident you can kill the dragon even with the penalties to AC and weapon attacks, do so, but if you were having difficulty before getting hit in the face with acid, or if there are other dangerous monsters about, it might be a good idea to teleport.
    • Spellcasting and Evocations aren't hindered by corrosion, so if your weapons aren't working anymore, try switching tactics.

History

  • Prior to 0.28, Spit Acid only had 3d7 base damage, but dealt an extra 4d5 "acid splash" damage to players.
  • Acid dragons were introduced in 0.20, replacing mottled dragons.
