::Thanks for the "13 or 14" info. Spriggans are special: very low HP and very high aptitude in stealth and stabbing. So even opponents who are very dangerous like Frederic or Xtahua can be stabbed. The distortion dagger is an uneasy tool because of the high probability to blink away the severely wounded stabbed foe. Dragon breath or high damage spells are to be considered: a high risk for Spriggans low xp. So to train the skill high pays in better ensuring the "single hit" death of foes >150 xp. - Dear CommanderC, I do know that Ash does not punish to leave a slot "unbound". But as long as you bind yourself important parts of the refered stats are higly increased. To get these rewards your "binding" is reqired. Stabbing limit? Hi fellow crawlers! Just a little question about stabbing. Do you usually apply a limit to increasing this skill? I've been grooming a SpAr XL15 of Ashenzari in 0.12. As the god requires the binding of the weapon hand I've been happily stabbing into midgame with a +4/+5 dagger (distort). The aptitude for Spriggans is high and several dragons and uniques have been vanquished by one stab. Yes, I see the table of stab success. But when is it enough? What are you accustomed to do? Limit stabbing to min 10 - max 20? Just like trap skill is usually limited to min5 - max10. Surely magic needs more xl points. I'm curious about many possible, very different attitudes. -- Bwijn 17:34, 25 June 2013 (CEST)

I usually stop at 13 or 14, because 99% of the sleeping monsters will die in a single hit, and because I like to have several killing/escape mechanisms, but my recommendation is to think by yourself and explore the game. By the way, Ashenzari does NOT require the binding of any particular slot. --CommanderC 22:04, 25 June 2013 (CEST)
Thanks for the "13 or 14" info. BTW in this special case it has been complicated by the Abyss menace if you change a distortion weapon. The 0.12 abyss is more dangerous than any before. Especially an Ashenarite has to change many bound items (amulet, rings, gloves, weapon). -- Bwijn 15:59, 3 July 2013 (CEST)
You're absolutely right in your assessment that spriggans are special in that regard; I think the farthest I ever got with a spriggan was three runes and clearing the Elven Halls when the last deep elf annihilator hit me with a lucky Crystal Spear. Just like that, I went from near full HP to dead. Ah well, the RNG giveth and the RNG taketh away...
Regarding the distortion dagger, I generally prefer a good freezing brand myself. It greatly improves stab damage and with very little increase to noise output. Electricity branded would be great if it didn't make stealth impossible. --MoogleDan 16:03, 3 July 2013 (CEST)
