Version 0.34: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.
- This page is a stub. You could probably expand this page should you wish to do so.
Banes are harmful modifiers applied to the player, usually after accumulating too much Doom. When a player's doom meter reaches 100% (the current amount can be seen in the top right) they will gain a single, random Bane. The player will have to gain experience to remove Banes (shown by how many levels worth of XP are required next to the Bane).
Banes are not mutations, and therefore can affect undead player species. They cannot be removed with a potion of mutation, nor will a potion of cancellation remove any Doom.
Undead player species require twice as much experience to remove Doom and Banes compared to non-undead species.
Useful Info

- Bane of Claustrophobia, which lowers melee damage and accuracy for each wall the player is adjacent to (Slay -2 per wall).
- Bane of the Dilettante, which reduces the player's highest weapon skill by 50% as well as their two highest magic / invocation / evocation skills by 25%.
- Bane of Electrospasm, which makes suffering electric damage sometimes inflict the -Move status. (Reduced chance with electricity resistance)
- Bane of Heatstroke, which makes suffering fire damage sometimes Slow you. (Reduced chance with more fire resistance)
- Bane of the Hunted, which makes any creatures summoned by enemies appear next to the player, last longer, and be better at tracking you. (Only summoned monsters)

- Bane of Mortality, which gives a chance for reapers to appear near wounded players when no other enemies are around. (If you are low level, the reapers spawn with permanent slowness.)
