Version 0.12: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.
This infamous weapon was used by a vile pirate captain to slaughter countless innocents. Finally, he met his destiny when a kraken swallowed his ship with all the crew aboard. The cutlass was thought to be forever lost, but now you have proof to the contrary in your hands.

Desirability

In the hands of a skilled Short Blades specialist, the captain's cutlass is as good as any quick blade, if not better. Its base damage is significantly higher than all other short blades while still benefiting from an extremely fast attack speed; even without an additional brand, it can deal excellent amounts of damage quickly, both in open combat and when stabbing. Like all short blades, it benefits greatly from any slaying bonuses you can give it, especially when dealing with high-AC targets in the late game. All in all it's a very respectable weapon, though, unlike a quick blade, it will chop off hydra heads.
