Quaffing a potion of strong poison poisons you for 3 to 15 (more) levels (with a strong probability for 9). Poison levels over 5 are very nasty, and this potion can put you anywhere from yellow poison status to pink and even to red (where it can do 100+ damage before running its course).
It is not entirely useless, however. Characters with rPois may drink it for a small amount of nutrition.

History
In 0.13 it will cause the effect of a potion of poison to those with poison resistance.
Prior to 0.12 this potion could be thrown with Evaporate to create clouds of poison gas.
