The Arbitrary Unit of Mass (AUM for short) was the standard unit of weight in Crawl. It had no real-world equivalent, and item weights were generally assigned according to game balance rather than realism. Each point of strength increased your carrying capacity by 25 aum. When this capacity was exceeded, the player gained the encumbered condition.
