Source citations
hi, let's not give individual source citations (eg, potion of degeneration). technically, everything in the wiki could have source citations, since it's all based on the source code. if there's something really useful, you can put it in <!-- --> on the main page or on the Discussion page. thanks --Petzl 18:28, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- Even as I myself (as an interested gamer) found it quite useful to get an entrance to source diving in the wiki. The commenting brackets will allow only wiki editors to perceive the entry. Well, okay, I won't insist. -- Cocteau 12:03, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
Crawl Wiki tourney team
Hi Cocteau, do you want to join our CrawlWiki team for the upcoming 0.11 tournament? Right now it is Palin, CommanderC, MoogleDan and me. --Flun 20:33, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks that you ask, but no! I'm not ready yet. Neither have I won a complete game up to now nor have I ever used the online arenas. I'm not even sure if you get free choice about tiles or non-tiles; I always play tiles graphics mode. By the way, not being a veteran makes it necessary to look up monster encounters which is probably boring for spectators. After all I come to the conclusion: leave it to the real champions and veteran Crawlers like you four are. Nevertheless I wish you GOOD LUCK! - If you inform me about day and time (I'm in Germany 6 hours different from US east coast) I might try to be among the spectators eventually. Aren't there even videos made? -- Cocteau 14:47, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
- The tournament has actually started already and lasts till Nov 4. You can track our progress here. As for playing online, you can play tiles, there's even an european server which will give you good latency. Also you don't have to be a veteran to play online, I would say most people who play online haven't won. The benefit of online is that you can track your progress. For example see my page. --Flun 19:06, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
- Very nice that you keep me informed. Now that you provided the direct links I've looked up the progress. Was much astonished that even a demigod, a wanderer and a Fedhas worshiper could win. Questions: Team points for "ghosts" like CommanderC means vanishing existing ghosts? What are the colorful Banners of missions like "Nature'Ally II get the golden rune" about? Individual goals of the player or tournament settings of special honours? - The benefit (and the bane) of online is that you (and everybody else) can permanently track down your scores. It's okay if you are quite good or don't care at all about that. You can do it as soon as you think yourself that you are advanced enough. -- Cocteau 20:24, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
- Team points for ghosts is how many player ghosts you've killed during the tournament. You also get team points for your ghost killing a player. The info on all the banners are located here. They are achievements set by the tournament organizers that you can try to get while playing during the tournament. Don't you want to try to get some of these? =P --Flun 21:28, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hey, you are six players which is the highest number possible per clan as I found in the tournament rules. And real good ones! I couldn't compete for lack of experience in the deeper regions. - There is one phrase in the tournament rules of which I just don't catch the meaning: "clans with the most unique uniques killed". What is counted if not the sheer number of uniques? Is it the most deepest uniques - measured by their placement in the listing, just like in the character's reportfile log? Is that objective? - And surely a next tournament will come in springtime. -- Cocteau 11:18, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
- I think "unique uniques" means different uniques, and weak uniques count as much as stronger ones. That's why I play fighter/berserkers in the hope of meeting the Laernan Hydra or Tiamat. One of the worst already has been dispatched (Mara) --Palin 13:17, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
- So it's 4 uniques left in our clan's tournament dungeon, I yet never met any of them in game encounter. And surprise: Jory is still not even part of this wiki's unique list! - I don't understand your idea of going into melee with The Lernaeaen Hydra - that one is but a joke, isn't it? As for Mara I read the Zelazny novel but defeated up to now only a simple Racshasa tiger demon. - Are uniques the only ones that do not reappear during the clan's tournament? Aren't the floors quite empty or is the respawning rate higher than in a non-online game? -- Cocteau 14:49, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
- About the Lernaeaen Hydra, it wasn't a joke. Took a mockup of my MiFi before the mutations in wizard mode and by endgame the beast never passed the 51 AC while my !speeded taur scored two hits at a time with an flaming axe. --Palin 15:33, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
- The game played online is exactly the same as the game played offline - killed uniques will not reappear in a particular game, but you can encounter them again on a different character. Killing the Lernaeaen Hydra doesn't get us any advantage, but its just fun to try to kill every unique that exists during the tournament. --Flun 15:47, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
