Version 0.34: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.
It fires a beam of energy whenever it strikes an enemy while its wielder has no less than 80% of their maximum hit points remaining. Unwielding it will briefly Weaken its wielder.

The valour brand, exclusive to Long Blades, does the following:

  • If your HP >= 80% when hitting an enemy, fire a range-4 piercing beam that can miss. Damage = 4d(2*base_damage/3).[1][2]
  • If unwielded, inflict weakness on the wielder for 10 turns.

Sources

Valour can only generate and exist on Long Blades. It is available through both random generation and through a scroll of brand weapon.

Strategy

Since valour's beam does not care about dexterity or skill, it is relatively stronger in the early game.

Assuming the HP threshold is met, the damage is clearly stronger than electrocution even when factoring AC and EV.

History

  • Valour was introduced, along with the other weapon type specific brands, in 0.34.
