Cure Poison is a level 2 Poison Magic spell which removes a significant amount of poison from the player. Derided by some as useless, this spell functions as a makeshift potion of curing, especially in the early game when you lack poison resistance and want to conserve your actual potions of curing. In branches of full of poison, such as the Spider's Nest and Snake Pit, it can be very helpful for reducing the time you spend sitting around after fights, allowing you to conserve food and piety for particularly bloodthirsty gods. Deep Dwarves may also find it helpful in staving off damage taken from high levels of poison that can cut through their damage shaving.
Strategy
- Want to know the biggest difference between Cure Poison and poison resistance? While Cure Poison can be used to prevent a lot of damage due to the poison status effect, it's next to useless against sources of direct poison damage. The Poison Magic of green deaths and greater nagas will quickly reduce you to a horribly toxic corpse no matter how prepared you are to stop the damage over time.
- Characters with poison resistance who have already cleared all poison-heavy locations may consider forgetting this spell if they need more spell levels. Poison-immune characters, like gargoyles or the undead, don't need to learn it in the first place.
- Unlike all other Poison Magic spells, the Shining One does not get upset when you cast Cure Poison.
History
In very early versions of Crawl, this belonged to the holy spell school. It is about the only such spell to not have been removed at some point.
