Special |
Sting is a level 1 Conjurations/Poison Magic spell which fires a toxic dart, dealing a small amount of poison damage and possibly poisoning the target. Enemies with poison resistance (such as demons and the undead) take no damage.
Venom Mages start with this spell memorized.
Strategy
Sting is good for softening up targets from a distance or just outright killing poison-vulnerable ones (like the game's many arthropods), however, if you have access to Sting, you also probably have access to Poisonous Vapours, which does much more reliable damage and can't miss. Therefore, outside of Venom Mages at XL 1, this spell is completely surpassed by Poisonous Vapours.
Monster version
Some monsters can cast Sting, which functions identically to the player version.
The following enemies cast Sting:
- o Blorkula the orcula (2d10 damage)
- P Scrub nettle (2d7 damage)
History
0.25 will change Sting's spell school from Conjurations to Transmutations, reduce Sting's range to 3, and cause it to deal partially-physical damage, allowing it to harm even poison-resistant monsters.
