A talisman charged with arcane forces of unknown provenance, to be worn as jewellery on a finger.

"A ring of gold and a milk-white dove
Are goodly gifts for thee,
And a hempen rope for your own love
To hang upon a tree."

-Oscar Wilde, "Chanson". 1881.

A ring is a type of jewellery. Characters may wear one ring on each hand (usually 2, but 8 for octopodes).

There are several base types of rings, in addition to artifact rings.
