Version 0.32: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.

When patronizing a particular god in Dungeon Crawl, you are sometimes rewarded with a gift from that god. These gifts reflect the overall theme and character of the gift-giving deity, and are typically only rewarded to those who have acquired a significant amount of piety. Gifted items can be searched for by pressing CTRL+F and entering "god gift".

Although all the various powers and abilities a god provides their followers might be viewed as "gifts" as well, Dungeon Crawl vernacular generally only refers to awarded items, mutations and spells as gifts.

Ashenzari's curses, Ru's sacrifices, and passive ally buffs (The Shining One & Beogh) are not counted as gifts for the purposes of this article.

Gods with capstone gifts

Several gods offer gifts as a capstone ability, a one-time reward at 6* of piety, rather than them being given over time.

Gift timeout

The gift timeout is the period during which you cannot receive any more gifts from your current god until you gain more piety.

Your gift timeout is a value that increases whenever you get a god gift; the duration depends on the god. It decreases by 1 for every point of piety you gain. Once timeout = 0, there is a chance, when gaining piety, to get a gift. This chance also depends on the god. Afterwards, the timeout resets. Wearing an amulet of faith increases your piety gain by +25%, speeding up the timeout by that amount. It also increases the chance you get a gift once timeout = 0 by 33%.

The following gods use the gift timeout system:

For Okawaru, Sif Muna, Trog, and Vehumet, if you would gain piety while gift time out > 0, there's a 75% chance that your piety won't actually increase (but gift timeout is still reduced).[1]
