Clarity is a valuable intrinsic which protects you from most sources of confusion, mesmerisation, fear, sleep, and from going berserk unwillingly (though you may still intentionally go berserk as normal). Clarity shields you from the confusion effects of Mephitic Cloud and other sources of noxious clouds, but does not protect you from the damage.
Clarity does not protect you from the following:
- Mesmerisation caused by the obsidian axe
- Confusion inflicted by Xom
- Confusion caused by potions of ambrosia
You can acquire clarity from the following sources:
- Ashenzari grants clarity at *** piety
- The Clarity mutation
- Wielding the autumn katana unrandart
- Wearing the Orange crystal plate armour unrandart
- Wearing the amulet of the Four Winds unrandart
Strategy
Avoiding confusion is critical in certain portions of the game. Confusion caused by enemies like golden eyes and swamp drakes can be extremely fatal if it hits at the wrong time. Many artefacts that are dangerous to use due to their berserkitis intrinsic (such as the zealot's sword or the necklace of Bloodlust) become highly prized when combined with a source of clarity.
