Version 0.32: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.

When patronizing a particular god in Dungeon Crawl, you are sometimes rewarded with a gift from that god. These gifts reflect the overall theme and character of the gift-giving deity, and are typically only rewarded to those who have acquired a significant amount of piety. Gifted items can be searched for by pressing CTRL+F and entering "god gift".

Although all the various powers and abilities a god provides their followers might be viewed as "gifts" as well, Dungeon Crawl vernacular generally only refers to awarded items, mutations and spells as gifts. Many gods have been revamped in recent versions to offer gifts as a capstone ability, which is a (usually very strong) one-time reward given at 6* of piety, rather than passive gifts throughout the game. These gifts will be listed in a separate section.

Ashenzari's curses, Ru's sacrifices, and passive ally buffs (The Shining One & Beogh) are not counted as gifts for the purposes of this article.

Gift timeout

The gift timeout is the period during which you cannot receive any more gifts from your current god until you gain more piety. Your gift timeout increases whenever you get a god gift; the duration depends on the god. It decreases by 1 for every point of piety you gain.

For gods with passive gifts, being in gift timeout reduces your piety gain. For these gods, if you gain piety with a timeout, there's a 75% chance that your piety won't actually increase (but gift timeout is still reduced).[1]

Once timeout = 0, there is a chance, when gaining piety, to get a gift. This chance depends on the god. Afterwards, the timeout resets. Wearing an amulet of faith increases your piety gain by +25%, speeding up the timeout by that amount. It also increases the chance you get a gift once timeout = 0 by 33%.

Nemelex Xobeh and Jiyva do not have the 75% penalty. Elyvilon's lifesaving uses the gift timeout function, without the 75% penalty. For the first 5 gifts, Vehumet has another system in place of a timeout. Xom's gifts are random, and do not follow timeout.
