Item classification
The colour of an item in inventory enhances the item's description as follows:
- Grey: is otherwise unnotable
- Dark Grey: is useless or unusable/melded
- White: is a randart
- Light Cyan: is an unrand or evocable that's not dangerous
- Blue: is an unidentified magical item (including: scrolls/potions/magical staves/jewellery, equipment with an enchantment or ego)
- Green: has an enchantment and/or ego or is a magical staff
- Red: is purely harmful, or discouraged by your god
- Bright Green: is uncursed and equipped
- Bright Red: is cursed and equipped
- Yellow: can help escape from or survive emergencies (teleport, healing, etc.)
- Cyan: is rare and beneficial
- Magenta: is dangerous to use but potentially useful
- Light Magenta: is a Rune or the Orb of Zot
These colours can be changed with the menu_colour option.
Properties
You can pick up items on your tile with G and drop them with d. Picking up items takes 1 turn regardless of the amount of items picked up, dropping them takes 1 turn per item stack.
Potions/scrolls/wands/throwables of the same type will stack into the same inventory slot and cannot be separated. For all practical purposes, there is no stack limit.
All items except potions and scrolls are either identified when stepping on its tile (equipment), or on sight (other items).
Valid monsters are allowed to use weapons, throwables, armour, and wands. They can pick up items that have not been seen by the player; only Maurice can pick up seen items.
