Strategy

Avoiding confusion is critical in certain portions of the game. Confusion caused by enemies like golden eyes and swamp drakes can be extremely fatal if it hits at the wrong time. Mummies or players using Necromutation in particular value clarity, as they are incapable of quaffing a potion of curing to remove confusion. However, other than Ashenzari, there are no common ways to get this intrinsic. Sufficient willpower and poison resistance will generally suffice anywhere outside of fights with tarantellas or a herd of dream sheep.

Many artefacts that are dangerous to use due to their berserkitis intrinsic (such as the zealot's sword or the necklace of Bloodlust) become highly prized when combined with a source of clarity.

History

  • Prior to 0.19, clarity did not protect against fear and sleep.
  • Prior to 0.18, clarity made potions of ambrosia useless. The amulet of clarity was also removed.
