Plutonians are only available on an experimental server. Much like trunk content, there is a fair chance that these will never be included in a stable release of Crawl.
Radioactive humanoids that draw strength from their magical contamination. If they accumulate too much contamination, they meltdown. |
Contents
Innate Abilities
- Nuclear powered: Plutonians do not suffer from hunger, but are always subject to at least moderate levels of magical contamination. This does not result in dangerous explosions or bad mutations, but does mean you are always backlit and cannot go invisible.
- Overload: Plutonians can choose to release magical contamination at will, releasing a powerful burst of non-elemental damage to everything within two tiles of you (yourself included). Costs 2 MP.
Preferred Backgrounds
- Warriors: Fighter
- Zealots: Berserker, Abyssal Knight, Death Knight
- Mages: Wizard, Fire Elementalist, Ice Elementalist, Air Elementalist, Earth Elementalist, Venom Mage

Strategy
Much like humans, plutonians lack any real skill focus. Unlike humans, plutonians level very slowly. This makes intelligent experience distribution critical, as they'll be dangerously low level much of the game, and can't simply power through due to some overly high skill levels. Even so, they are still fairly versatile; the only builds that aren't really recommended are stealth based characters (constant glow penalizes stealth heavily, and the loss of invisibility hurts as well) or hybrid characters (there's just not enough experience around to be competent at too many things at once).
They do enjoy slight bonuses in combat magic, and their hungerless gameplay benefits them even further here, allowing them to largely neglect Spellcasting, focus on a couple magic schools, and blast opponents with powerful spells, particularly if you can find a good source of channeling (again, no hunger is certainly helpful here). On the flip side, they also work very well as Trog worshipers, berserking without a care for hunger costs, and as Elyvilon followers, essentially having infinite access to her pacification options.
