A truly horrible undead creature, a ghoul is a decayed cadaver, reanimated and accursed with a terrible hunger. It desires nothing but to feed on the flesh of the living, and will fell its victims with its vicious claws or with one of the diseases it is host to.

"In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, 'Is it good friend?'
'It is bitter - bitter,' he answered,
'But I like it
Because it is bitter,
And because it is my heart.'"

-Stephen Crane, _The Black Riders and Other Lines_. 1895.

Useful Info

One of the nastier threats in the Crypt, ghouls are similar to necrophages, but much more powerful. Their brutal melee attacks will rot even the most heavily armoured of characters, they tend to appear in packs, they can move at normal speed, and they have over twice the health of a skeletal warrior. Fortunately they have no defenses beyond their tremendous HP and the standard undead immunities.

Tips & Tricks

Dispel Undead is an option, although it will take 4-5 casts to kill one on average. It may be better to simply use high-level conjurations, especially if you can line the entire pack up in a hallway. Melee characters have a harder time of things, but can use weapons of holy wrath and stair dancing to make the situation a little easier.
