Version 0.23: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.
This scroll surrounds the reader with a dense cloud of fog. |
Reading a scroll of fog creates several clouds of harmless, opaque smoke. These are centered around the player and last for several turns.
Strategy
At first, this scroll appears to have little use, but it can be very helpful in certain situations:
- Enemy abilities and spells that create dangerous clouds cannot affect tiles that already have clouds, creating a temporary safe spot for you.
- The locations of invisible monsters standing in clouds are revealed by the disturbances they create.
- You can block line of sight by placing two or more clouds of smoke between you and the enemy, protecting you from dangerous ranged attackers, smiters, and tormenters long enough for you to flee or position yourself somewhere safer. Better still, while enemies can't attack tiles they can't see, you can; firing at tiles where you predict opponents may be can get you several free hits while the enemy charges toward you. Keep an eye out for the "You feel more experienced" message to alert you of an unseen enemy's death.
History
- Prior to 0.22, not all fog types from Scrolls of fog did spread like grey and black fog.
