Holy wrath

The holy wrath brand causes a weapon to deal an average of +75% damage (minimum 1, max 150%) to demons and the undead.

Holy wrath can be found on any melee weapon except demon blades, demon tridents, and demon whips (which become their blessed counterparts instead). It is the Shining One's special brand: at six stars of piety, you can have the brand added to any weapon of your choosing, including ranged weapons. It can not be obtained through a scroll of brand weapon.

You cannot wield weapons with this brand if you yourself are undead (Mummy, Ghoul, all Vampires, in lichform) or a demonspawn. Holy wrath will also offend Yredelemnul, though the other evil gods won't mind.

Tips & Tricks

• While weak in most early-game branches (such as the Lair), it excels in the extended game, when most branches are filled with powerful demons and undead. The Crypt, the Tomb, Pandemonium and the Hells are especially good places to have a weapon of holy wrath.
• Note that this brand does not deal additional damage to non-demonic, non-undead creatures, even if they are "evil" otherwise.
  • Holy wrath is not holy damage. Profane servitors have rHoly, but holy wrath can affect them as normal.

History

• Prior to 0.24, weapons of holy wrath were immune to being cursed, even from Ashenzari.
