Armour made from the scales of a mottled dragon. Although it does not provide its wearer with much protection, unlike the armour made from the scales of some larger dragons, it is as light and relatively uncumbersome as leather armour. It is also remarkably smooth, letting sticky flames flow down like water. |
Mottled dragon armour is one of the best armours available for stealthy or spellcasting characters. It provides decent AC and GDR in exchange for a very small encumbrance rating which even characters with a terrible Armour skill aptitude (such as spriggans, ogres, trolls, or deep elves) can easily overcome. Also, it is the best armour in the game still capable of benefiting from Ozocubu's Armour. Unfortunately, it is rarely found lying around, and its special resistance to Sticky Flame is not very useful. You may find that a robe or leather armour with a useful resistance is more helpful if you expect to deal with a particular form of elemental damage in the near future.
You can make your own suit of this armour by using a scroll of enchant armour on a mottled dragon hide. It takes 6 turns to wear or remove.
