Although more dexterity is always nice, the exact impact of boosting your dexterity really depends on your [[Dodging]] and [[Stealth]] skills, as well as the [[encumbrance rating]] of your armour. [[Ev]]asion-based fighters or sneaky [[stab]]bers will likely appreciate it far more than a [[minotaur]] in [[crystal plate armour]].

In any case, a ring of dexterity isn't going to help you enough to make it competitive with many of the other options out there, such as resistances or intrinsics like [[see invisible]] or [[wizardry]]. Definitely use it in place of nothing, but don't feel bad swapping it out when something more crucial comes along.

A [[minotaur]] in [[plate armour]] may prefer a [[ring of evasion]], but a Dodging-based fighter will appreciate dexterity as a general stat-boosting ring. It boosts damage, EV, SH, and stealth - that's a handful on the right character.

A minotaur in plate armour may prefer a ring of evasion, but a Dodging-based fighter will appreciate dexterity as a general stat-boosting ring. It boosts damage, EV, SH, and stealth - that's a handful on the right character.

History

  • Prior to 0.27, you could find rings of dexterity with a -4 enchantment; such rings were always cursed. Also, there were stepdowns to both evasion and dexterity, which made dexterity less viable as an overall stat.
