One of the Stoneborn, formed untold aeons ago with supreme command over rock. Her people shelter deep within the living earth, so whatever has forced Vv into the oppressive openness of the Dungeon must be dire indeed. But whatever it is, she's not talking...

"Beside the man stands a woman - of sorts. Her emulation of the human gender is only superficial, a courtesy. Likewise the loose drapelike dress she wears is not cloth. She has simply shaped a portion of her stiff substance to suit the preferences of the fragile, mortal creatures among whom she currently moves. From a distance the illusion would work to pass her off as a woman standing still...

When she turns to the man - slowly; stone eaters are slow aboveground, except when they aren't - this movement pushes her beyond artful beauty into something altogether different. The man has grown used to it, but even so, he does not look at her. He does not want revulsion to spoil the moment."
-N.K. Jemisin, "The Fifth Season". 2015.

Useful Info

Vv the Exile is a unique monster of a unique species. She combines both fire and ice attacks, with a dual-branded melee attack and the spells of the cold ironbound frostheart and hot salamander tyrant.

Tips & Tricks

  • Vv's elemental spells are highly dangerous and ignore EV, but can only be used in certain situations. Positioning is crucial - characters with high cold resistance can invite the more easily resistible spell by staying near walls, and characters with high fire resistance may prefer staying out in the open. Being in melee assumes you have both - and anyone but the most well-armoured characters will be devastated, anyway.
  • She cannot see invisible, so potions of invisibility are highly effective at avoiding her deadly spells.
  • Like many constructs, she is vulnerable to Lee's Rapid Deconstruction and Shatter.
  • Anguish, boosted by a scroll of vulnerability, will rebound each of her lethal spells for a very fast takedown.

  • Vv was introduced in 0.29.
