Haste was a level 6 Charms spell which gave you or a targeted creature the Haste condition, causing them to perform all actions 50% faster (2/3 normal time), with duration increasing with spell power. It has since been removed from the spells players have access to, but potions of haste produce a similar effect.

Casting the spell gave you a single point of magic contamination, and more would accumulate as you remain hasted. Casting the spell again to extend a haste added +2 contamination per casting. For reference, magical contamination becomes a point of concern at 5.

Note the difference between this spell and Swiftness, the level 2 Charms/Air Magic spell which only affects movement speed and slows you when it expires. Note also that Haste and Swiftness stack.

Version 0.33: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.
Speeds the actions of a creature.

Haste is a status effect and a monster-only spell that increases the speed of all actions.

Effect

Hasted entities have their actions take 2/3rds as long. This makes players and monsters alike significantly more dangerous, as acting more often makes them more effective at virtually everything they do.

Note: Time taken per action, measured in decaAut, is rounded to the tenths place in a weighted manner. For example, an action that would normally take 1.0 decaAut would take an average of ~0.67 decaAut if hasted; this would be rounded, with a 33% chance to take 0.6 decaAut and a 67% chance to take 0.7 decaAut while hasted.

Cheibriados blocks the haste effect. Haste does not stack with berserk or Okawaru's Finesse.

Sources

Other than the spell, players and monsters can get this status via a potion of haste, through chaos effects, or as a result of going berserk.

Monster Spell

The Haste spell gives the hasted status to its user.

The following enemies may be able to cast Haste, depending on their spell set:

A separate spell (Haste Other) allows monsters to give the haste status to other creatures. However, fairly few monsters possess it, and no monsters have both spells at once. The separation between the two monster spells and the resultant inability of dread liches and deep elf sorcerers to haste their summons is more of an artifact of the way monster spellcasting is implemented than a mercy on the part of the developers.
