It inflicts extra damage upon your enemies. |
Vorpal is a brand which any weapon may have. Melee weapons with the vorpal brand do on average 12.5% additional damage on a hit. The actual implementation does between 1% and 25% more damage each hit. Ranged weapons do 20% more damage.
The displayed brand name differs by weapons type:
- Axes - Chopping
- Short Blades - Slicing
- Polearms - Piercing
- Maces & Flails, Staves - Crushing
- Long Blades - Slashing
- Short Blades - Stabbing
- Ranged weapons - Velocity
While vorpal-branded weapons can be found randomly, you can also make your own through use of a scroll of vorpalise weapon on a non-branded, non-artifact weapon. This may be a waste, however, as the scroll can also be used to affix several other more useful temporary brands (flaming or frost are widely considered the most useful).
Tips & Tricks
- This brand works best on high-damage weapons, since the damage is multiplicative.
- Vorpal weapons are inferior damage-wise to most other brands, but versatile because nothing can resist its damage. Trog worshipers may use one simply because their lack of spell-casting makes access to other brands difficult, at least until Trog gifts them something better.
