Mist talisman
| A small censer from which pours an endless smoky haze. Transforms the wearer's head into a billowing shroud of mist. Any potions they drink in this form will
be rapidly decomposed into gases which they can expel via melee attacks as blasts of harmful clouds. They can also slowly condense the dungeon's air into potions of mist, allowing them to become intangible and blind monsters. However, the lack of typical mouth parts makes it difficult to pronounce incantations, greatly slowing the speed at which they cast spells. |
A mist talisman is a talisman that changes you into a mistmane form.

Useful Info
When Put on, a mist talisman turns you into a Mistmane Form, which lasts until you end the form. Entering a form takes 4 turns and exiting it takes 5.
Mistmane Form has a minimum Shapeshifting skill of 8, and the maximum skill is 14. Skill makes potions of mist faster and extends cloud range + duration.
The Stalker background starts with a mist talisman.
Mistmane Form has the following effects:
Traits
- Slows spellcasting to 1/2 speed
- Exploring creates potions of mist (capped at 5 at a time)
- Drinking potions sprays a 3-wide beam of clouds on your next melee attack (shown as a 4-6 turn "Vapour" status)
- Drinking Potion of mist or Potion of curing produces blinding haze clouds (which checks HD and can't blind undead or nonliving foes)
- Potion of berserk rage produces flame clouds
- Potion of mutation produces mutagenic fog
- All other potions make noxious fumes.
Restrictions
- Melded Gear: helmet.
Strategy
Mistmane is a strong form for any stabber, unable or unwilling to depend on spells to achieve combat stabs when stealth fails. Given that this form only melds one auxiliary armor slot (the helmet), it's easy to use with any character. The primary weakness of this form is undead and certain other enemies, including the Gargoyle (monster), who are immune to blinding and confusing clouds - thus only berserk/fire clouds are useful. A reliance on Stealth or Evocable items will often be preferable in these cases.
That said, Mistmane form continues to be useful well into S-branches, shining against constricting/webbing enemies in Snake and Spider in particular (given that Mist potions will make you insubstantial at will). A stabber looking to continue in the shapeshifting school may enjoy either the Lupine talisman or Blade talisman next.
