A funerary stone figurine kept in tombs to serve the deceased as they pass through the afterlife. It is inscribed with spells to protect the interred for eternity.

“Spell for causing a shabti to do work for a man in the realm of the dead:
O shabti, allotted to me, if I be summoned or if I be detailed to do any work
which has to be done in the realm of the dead, if indeed any obstacles are
implanted for you therewith as a man at his duties, you shall detail yourself
for me on every occasion of making arable the fields, of flooding the banks or
of conveying sand from east to west; ‘Here I am’, you shall say.

-Spell 6, _Book of the Dead_, from _Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead:
Journey through the afterlife_, edited by John H. Taylor. 2010

Useful Info

Despite their appearance, ushabtiu are not mummies. They are instead non-living constructs designed to guard the Tomb from intruders. They are capable of making inordinate amounts of noise, exhaling blasts of miasma, tearing apart undead adventurers who would otherwise resist the majority of the Tomb's defenses, and simply pummeling intruders in melee.

Slot3 Dispel Undead Range (3d14) Magical flag

Tips & Tricks

  • Their Death Rattle spell functions similarly to a catoblepas's petrifying breath attack, creating a line of unwholesome clouds. If you're already standing in a cloud of your own creation, the spell won't be able to affect you. Characters with immunity to rotting can simply ignore the associated clouds, standing in them for safety. Just be mindful of your safe cloud dissipating.
  • Undead characters (and those using lich form) should be wary of their Dispel Undead - it isn't overly powerful, but it deals completely irresistible damage nonetheless.
