A huge and muscular figure engulfed in a cloud of searing flame.
"When the hoopoe returned to Solomon (he told him the news), and he responded (to Sheba's people): "Are you giving me money? What GOD has given me is far better than what He has given you. You are the ones to rejoice in such gifts." (To the hoopoe, he said), "Go back to them (and let them know that) we will come to them with forces they cannot imagine. We will evict them, humiliated and debased." He said, "O you elders, which of you can bring me her mansion, before they arrive here as submitters?" One afrit from the jinns said, "I can bring it to you before you stand up. I am powerful enough to do this." -The Quran, Sura 27 Al-Naml |
Useful Info
Efreets are fiery demons which wield flaming scimitars and hurl fireballs with no regard for other monsters. They leave trails of flame clouds behind them, though this rarely affects you as they do not flee when injured. They can be found wild in the Abyss, Pandemonium, and the Hells, and may be summoned with a bottled efreet (with an Evocations-dependent chance of being hostile).

Tips & Tricks
- Fire resistance will help reduce the damage you take, while conservation will protect your scrolls from destruction.
- Using a bottled efreet early in the game can be suicidal; even if they appear friendly, they can cause immense damage by dropping a fireball right next to you, and the flame clouds they leave behind can cut off your escape route or roast any other allies you may have. That being said, if you're entering the Lair and need a good anti-hydra weapon, their scimitars are perfect for the job.
- The Swamp is also known for plentiful hydras, but note that the fire trail of a friendly efreet will generate huge amounts of steam. This can aid stealthy types, especially if they have fire or steam resistance. Otherwise, the visibility loss and random steam damage may outweigh having a flaming anti-hydra bodyguard.
- To avoid the disadvantages of an efreet but keep the advantages, tell friendly efreets to 'wait here' near the entrance to a level. Then use recall when a hydra is encountered. Don't forget to recall the efreet and have him follow you before leaving the level!
