Type Jewellery
Name Ring of protection
Icon Ring of protection.png
A ring that protects its wearer from harm.

A +4 ring of protection boosts the AC of the wearer.

Desirability

All characters are going to want more AC, but sacrificing a ring slot for it may or may not be a good idea. Unlike most amulets, you can quickly swap rings, easily switching between them at need. Rings of protection are more likely to be useful for characters with low AC; mechanically, there is a much larger difference between 5 and 9 AC compared to 25 and 29. In particular, characters that cannot wear some or all types of armour (spriggans, ogres, trolls, octopodes, felids) will appreciate having a ring of protection.

History

  • Prior to 0.27, you could find rings of protection with a -4 enchantment; such rings were always cursed.
  • Prior to 0.25 enchantments were random values between 1 and 6 (positive and negative).
