Useful Info
Asmodeus is a demon lord who wields the Sceptre of Asmodeus and is the guardian of the obsidian rune on the last level of Gehenna. All tiles adjacent to Asmodeus fill with persistent clouds of flame which will trail behind him as he moves, making melee with him painful. However, he's even more dangerous at range, hammering you with Hellfire and summoning endless reinforcements. He can be found in the back room of his castle, usually accompanied by a pair of brimstone fiends.
Spells: Bolt of Fire (3d26), Hellfire (3d20), Fire Summon
Tips & Tricks
- The lava area outside of Asmodeus' castle has many sealed off smoke demons wandering about, as well as other less-dangerous foes. Although you can't easily reach them, they will smite you any time they notice you through the many transparent stone walls and iron grates in the castle. Ignoring them can leave you dangerously low on HP by the time you reach Asmodeus, so use a wand of digging to destroy the grates and kill them on sight.
- If you don't draw him into melee range, Asmodeus will quickly fill up the room with fire-related summons. He and his summons can toss a lot of hellfire and bolts of fire your way. Just being next to him places you in a column of flame. Needless to say, rF++ or rF+++ is a prerequisite here. He has a lot of HP and AC, so killing him will be tough. One way is to gain his attention and lure him into one of the smaller vaults nearby. Then, buff yourself, summon a few allies, and once he's in your LOS try to kill him as quickly as possible.
