Confuse is a monster-only spell that attempts to induce confusion in a single target from a distance. It requires a clear line of effect and must overcome the target's willpower, but it works on anything that isn't immune to magic.
Confusion is a dangerous status condition; what few actions it doesn't outright disable are rendered unreliable at best. Confused characters cannot use magic spells, special abilities, wands, or shields, and any attempt to move or attack may instead result in stumbling in a random direction. Fortunately, quaffing a potion of curing will instantly cure confusion, but there's nothing stopping a monster from simply confusing you again, and mummies and characters in lichform don't even have that option. Followers of Ru, Elyvilon, Zin, and Ashenzari can use divine abilities to cure or prevent confusion.
If you encounter any monster capable of confusing you, do what you can to increase your willpower. Failing that, prioritize taking them out quickly.
The following enemies cast Confuse:
- e Deep elf archer
- G Great orb of eyes
- a Imperial myrmidon
- o Orc wizard
- @ Rupert
- @ Sigmund
- H Sphinx
- V Vampire (monster)
Be aware that some monsters are instead capable of inducing confusion with their melee attacks. Click here for a complete list.
