A suit made entirely out of tiny metal rings. Offering strong protection against weapons, claws and carnassials, chain mail hinders quick and stealthy movement. |
Chain mail is one of the heavier normal armours you can acquire, providing substantial defense but at a heavy cost to evasion.
It is one of two armours able to get the ponderousness ego.
Desirability
Although players focusing on the Armour skill may get some use out of this early on, they should switch to plate armour (or better) quickly for superior defense. Dodgers and casters will likely find this armour too heavy to bother with. In general, it's not worth wearing in the long run unless you get an awesome randart.
History
- Prior to 0.30, chain mail had an encumbrance rating of 14. It also was unable to have the ponderousness ego.
- Prior to 0.13, chain mail had 7 base AC.
- Prior to 0.10, it had 6 base AC.
The increases in AC have been due to the removal of banded mail, and later, of splint mail.
