A brutally twisted undead gnoll in the eternal service of Ereshkigal, lord of Tartarus. Legend has it that he sold his soul to return his most beloved hunting dog to life. Whether that hound is a member of his current pack, none can say. |
For a list of all gnolls, see list of gnolls. Not to be confused with Grum.

Useful Info
Grunn the Punished is a unique monster that comes with a pack of 2-4 doom hounds. He has a 1% of spawning with the Scythe of Curses, if it hasn't generated already.
Grunn is an alternate version of Grum. Only one may spawn in a given game.

Tips & Tricks
- The doom hounds are often the scariest part of this encounter, but mind Grunn himself, who often comes with a highly enchanted polearm. Still, his complete lack of spells means players capable of staying out of his reach, of to simply tank the hits, won’t be challenged by Grunn himself.
- Doom hounds, on the other hand, tend to be extremely dangerous for the moment a character facing Grunn will encounter them. The Howl status effect is irresistible, but a potion of cancellation will remove it.
- Doom Howl spawns enemies from Tartarus around the player for a time. Aside from the heavy-hitting bone dragons and reapers, living players should fear the torment of tormentors and Tzitzimimeh. The latter, with their irresistible, AC and EV-bypassing Dispel Undead Range, are even scarier to undead characters, whether naturally or under the effect of Necromutation. Finally, putrid mouths can breathe debilitating miasma, leaving you slowed and even more vulnerable to the onslaught. Not to mention Grunn himself.
