A swift and sinuous vine brought alive by a dryad's magic. It can quickly bind and entangle even a troll, dragging them back to the forest from which it surges.

Useful Info

Snaplasher vines are common forest plants which have been aggressively animated by a dryad. These vines will emerge from nearby tree tiles, stretch out to their pray, and grab it, dealing minor damage and dragging the victim toward the trees it originates from. Up to three snaplasher vines can be summoned by a dryad at any time; they are worth no experience and immediately die as soon as their summoner is killed.

Tips & Tricks

  • Killing them is generally a waste of time; take out the dryad to clear out all the vines at once.
  • The dryad will usually cast Awaken Forest early on in a fight. Try not to let the vines drag you to a tile adjacent to an awakened tree or you'll start taking significant damage.
  • Avoid Tabbing your way through combat when facing these things. You'll usually wind up chopping at the vines rather than the dryad, and it's easy for a player who's automating combat to not notice that he's getting smacked around by the nearby trees.

History

Snaplasher vines were originally intended for use in the Enchanted Forest. When that branch failed to be released in any stable version of Crawl, they were still added to the game's code in 0.13, but could only be encountered in-game in 0.14, as part of the spell Summon Forest.
