Wretched stars are the chaos-spewing embodiments of Lugonu's realm, inflicting temporary (transient) bad mutations on everything within their line of sight. These mutations will go away on their own after you have killed a few monsters, but can leave you heavily handicapped in the meantime. They also occasionally blast you with non-elemental Conjurations. They can be found in the Abyss and in Lehudib's Moon Base wizlab.

Tips & Tricks
- The waves of bad mutations also affect any monsters on screen, reducing their speed, AC, and damage output. This rarely makes a huge impact on any given battle, however.
- Mummies should treat wretched stars with extreme caution. Instead of sustaining temporary mutations, they suffer permanent rot and stat loss. Kill them as quickly as possible to avoid having to squander permanent MP recovering. This also applies to lich form deep dwarves, though to a lesser extent as they can recover stats through quaffing potions of restore abilities.
