A suit made entirely out of tiny metal rings. Offering strong protection against weapons, claws and carnassials, chain mail hinders quick and stealthy movement. |
Chain mail is one of the heavier normal armours you can acquire, providing substantial defense but at a heavy cost to evasion.
Desirability
Although players focusing on the Armour skill may get some use out of this early on, they should switch to plate mail or better as soon as possible for superior defense. Dodgers and casters will likely find this armour too heavy to bother with. In general, it's not worth wearing in the long run unless you get an awesome randart.
History
Prior to 0.13, chain mail had 7 base AC. Prior to 0.10, it had 6 base AC. The continual increase in its AC has been due first to the removal of banded mail, then the removal of splint mail.
