Icon Ring of positive energy.png
A ring that protects the life-force of its wearer from negative energy, making them partially immune to the draining effects of undead and necromantic magic.

A ring of positive energy provides one level of negative energy resistance (rN+), protecting its wearer from draining attacks and necromantic magic.

Strategy

Whether this ring is useful or not is largely situational, although life protection is less broadly useful than fire or cold resistance in a 3-rune game. Immune to negative energy by nature, Ghouls, Mummies, and bloodless Vampires can ignore this entirely, though vampires may be able to use one if they get ambushed by an enemy with negative energy attacks while Alive.

As many draining attacks are subject to EV, very agile characters will not generally need much negative energy resistance. However, taking on Vault:5's shadow dragons or Elf:3's deep elf death mages may wish to have a rank of rN in order to avoid taking heavy damage and the debilitating debuff that accompanies draining attacks.

Negative energy resistance is typically very important to have in areas where torment is common (such as the Tomb and the Hells). Those to convert to The Shining One need not worry; TSO provides maximum rN for pious followers.
