The scales of a fire-breathing dragon. It provides great protection from fire, while rendering its wearer more susceptible to cold.

Fire dragon scales is a relatively light suit of body armour which provides reasonable physical defense, a bearable encumbrance rating, and excellent fire resistance (rF++). However, it also penalizes the wear with one rank of cold vulnerability. You can obtain this by random chance from killing

Desirability

Many players consider this the best general-purpose armour: it provides almost as much protection as plate armour, while having an encumbrance rating that will still allow spellcasting. The rF++ it provides is very useful, and the rC- is usually bearable given that cold attacks are generally rarer and less damaging than fire attacks, with a few notable exceptions. Still, it is often best to wait until you have at least one source of cold resistance before wearing fire dragon scales, as taking an extra 50% from cold attacks can be quite dangerous.

History

Before 0.19, this item was known as fire dragon armour. It was obtained from using a scroll of enchant armour on fire dragon hide

Prior to 0.10, this item was known merely as "dragon armour". It was renamed to avoid confusion with other dragon armours.
