Version 0.34: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.
A fossilised jellyfish polyp, inscribed with sigils. Causes a mane of long stinging tendrils to sprout from the user's head which lash out at nearby enemies whenever the user attacks, poisoning them. When they feel their host's life is in danger, they can even turn these poisoned foes to stone.

Medusa talisman.png A medusa talisman is a talisman that changes you into a medusa.

Useful Info

When Put on, a medusa talisman turns you into Medusa Form, which lasts until you end the form. Entering a form takes 4 turns and exiting it takes 5.

Medusa Form has the following effects:

Offensive traits

  • Unarmed Combat: 3 base damage (no bonus)
  • When attacking in melee, tendrils lash out and poison several random nearby enemies.
    • The number of enemies attacked with tendrils scales from 2.5 at minimum Shapeshifting skill to 4 at maximum skill.
    • The tendrils can poison any enemy within 2 tiles of the player.

Defensive traits

  • Poison resistance (rPois)
  • Lithotoxin: When you drop below 60% HP, all nearby poison is empowered with a skill-based chance to petrify poisoned enemies. When activated, you get -Lithotoxin status until you heal to full HP.

Restrictions

Medusa Form has a minimum Shapeshifting skill of 8, below which you get an HP penalty. Maximum skill is 14.

Strategy

Medusa form is an excellent way to gain early game poison resistance if you haven't found it elsewhere. It also pairs well with polearms and thier reach ability, as well as spriggans who can hit (to poison) and run.

Keep an eye on your Lithotoxin status. If it's down, refresh the timer before engaging more enemies - this is your main defense mechanism!
