An ancient skeletal apparition, sheathed in a cloud of mist. Its form glows white-hot with debilitating energy.

“No sooner had sleep caught him, dissolving all his grief
as mists of refreshing slumber poured around him there—
his powerful frame was bone-weary from charging Hector
straight and hard to the walls of windswept Troy—
than the ghost of stricken Patroclus drifted up...
He was like the man to the life, every feature,
the same tall build and the fine eyes and voice
and the very robes that used to clothe his body.
Hovering at his head the phantom rose and spoke:
‘Sleeping, Achilles? You’ve forgotten me, my friend.
You never neglected me in life, only now in death.
Bury me, quickly—let me pass the Gates of Hades.
They hold me off at a distance, all the souls,
the shades of the burnt-out, breathless dead,
never to let me cross the river, mingle with them...
They leave me to wander up and down, abandoned, lost
at the House of Death with the all-embracing gates.’”
-Homer, _The Iliad_, XXIII, 72-88.

Useful Info

Eidola are insubstantial undead monsters, similar to wraiths but stronger. Their melee attacks inflict the slow status effect and occasionally cause intelligence damage, though both effects can be prevented with negative energy resistance. They can also magically terrify you, making you unable to move closer to the eidolon for some time, and will then blast you with Bolt of Draining. They are found in Tartarus, the Abyss, the Crypt, and rarely in the Vaults.

Spells

Spell set I
Slot1 Bolt of Draining (3d21) Magical flag
Slot2 Cause Fear Magical flag

Tips & Tricks

  • Pile on the negative energy resistance when dealing with these guys, as Cause Fear coupled with Bolt of Draining can result in heavy amounts of draining very quickly.
  • Cause Fear can be resisted with high magic resistance. This can be critical if you lack the means to defeat them quickly at range.
  • Silence doesn't stop these guys from casting, so don't expect that silent spectre you have following you around to provide any assistance.

History

Prior to 0.13, eidola would drain your experience with their melee attacks. This change accompanied the 0.13 overhaul to draining effects. They also gained Bolt of Draining.
