The scales of a gold dragon. It is much heavier than most dragon scale armours, and grants its wearer resistance to poison, fire and cold.

Gold dragon scales are one of the heaviest body armours in the game (tied with crystal plate armour), providing excellent physical defense as well as resistance to fire, cold, and poison. Unfortunately, they require very high strength to wear effectively, and the armour's encumbrance rating is massive enough to make casting spells, dodging, and stealth very difficult, if not outright impossible.

This item may randomly generate when you slay a golden dragon.

Desirability

Although three guaranteed resistances, excellent AC, and high enchant rating may sound tempting, realize that few species can naturally have enough strength to wear this armour comfortably. Ruining your evasion and spellcasting may not be worth the tradeoff.

As a result, these scales are rather well-suited to trolls and ogres, who have the natural strength to wear gold dragon armour, already have evasion penalties due to their large size, and enjoy finding multiple resistances on a single piece of equipment. However, any character who would already wear heavy armour and has enough scrolls of enchant armour to spare (assuming you had previously enchanted body armour) will appreciate its full protection.

History

• Prior to 0.19, this armour was named golden dragon armour and was crafted by using a scroll of enchant armour on a gold dragon hide.
• Prior to 0.16, this armour's encumbrance rating was 25.
• Prior to 0.14, this armour's encumbrance rating was 27.
